New Pick! The Lovely Bones

Amy Luft picked our 3rd Book Club Choice- The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold
Once in a generation a novel comes along that taps a vein of universal human experience, resonating with readers of all ages. THE LOVELY BONES is such a book -- a #1 bestseller celebrated at once for its artistry, for its luminous clarity of emotion, and for its astonishing power to lay claim to the hearts of millions of readers around the world. Now in an audiobook edition read by the author, with movie tie-in art.

"My name was Salmon, like the fish; first name, Susie. I was fourteen when I was murdered on December 6, 1973."
So begins the story of Susie Salmon, who is adjusting to her new home in heaven, a place that is not at all what she expected, even as she is watching life on earth continue without her -- her friends trading rumors about her disappearance, her killer trying to cover his tracks, her grief-stricken family unraveling. Out of unspeakable tragedy and loss, THE LOVELY BONES succeeds, miraculously, in building a tale filled with hope, humor, suspense, even joy.

We meet again on January 28th in Olathe to discuss the book.

  1. I am going to join you. I am a new follower. Pop on by and follow back if you would like. I was not sure if I wanted to read this or see the movie because I lost my brother this year is a very traumatic way....but I think I will read this. It is supposed to be a wonderful book. Happy new year

  2. I also had a lot of similarities with this book that made it difficult to read. But I did keep reading and it was well written. I am sure as always the book will be better than the movie. I am interested to see what you think. I am sorry to hear about your brother.

  3. I don't generally read book blogs. I like to read but just dont read much.

This book however I read when it first came out.. wonderful book and despite its topic not depressing.

    Worth a read most definitely
